Riserva Naturale Torrile e Trecasali
The Nature Reserve,
established by the Region Emilia-Romagna in 2010, extends over about
109 hectares in the municipalities of Torrile and Trecasali, in the northeastern side of the Province of Parma, and it includes part of the
Lipu Oasis in Torrile (established in 1988 to help the Black-winged stilt stop and nest in that area, thanks to some activists from the Lipu association, section of Parma). The Nature Reserve and the Oasis are included within a wider protection zone, listed among the SCIs and SPAs of the Natura 2000 Network.
The Protected Area safeguards a wetland situated on the left of the Parma stream, near the settling tanks of the Eridania sugar factory, and a few kilometers far from the karst spring in the locality called Commenda, one of the last springs in Parma's upper plain.
The main purpose of the established Nature Reserve is to
protect and keep the renaturalized environments as habitats for the nesting, wintering and migration of the avifauna, and to maintain a good conservation status of the species and habitats of community interest, classified as typical of the site of community importance
"SIC ZPS IT4020017 Area delle risorgive di Viarolo, Bacini zuccherificio Torrile, fascia golenale del Po".
